All is not lost

Ok, so it's probably because I had a fairly good grasp of Object Direct and Object Indirect from last year but today felt like the first time I wasn't floundering in a sea of confusion! I'm so proud and I think it's because I've been talking to myself an extra whole lot. In French.

I felt like telling my teacher that but realized he didn't particularly care and it was just an excuse to talk about my feelings aloud.

Je dois me parler plus souvent!
(What I think I said: I must talk to myself more often)
If I'm wrong, please correct me.

PS -I even got to read outloud in class. And that never happens. Him actually letting us read the text(of some mini-story that'll be on some dictée quiz). I hate dictées.

story writing - advice

I don't know why it's taken me this long to figure it out.

Well, I was in class sketching out 100 quick cabinets designs to 'loosen up' and get the creative juices flowing, when the teacher tells us not to censor ourselves and to literally draw whatever pops into our brain no matter how silly it is. Yeah, yeah, heard this before.

I forget the actual circumstances but anyway, someone(teach or whatever) also tells us not to edit our ideas as we're drawing them and compares it to writing a story. You don't write the story and edit it at the same time. If you do, you limit yourself until you're stuck with no ideas 'cause you're too concerned with the story being perfect or good enough.

Write the story, don't edit as you're writing.

I've wondered why I couldn't finish a multi-chapter story. It's because as soon as I'd be done one chapter, I'd edit and then post it up on FFN, soak up the praise and then get stuck trying to write the next chapter to be as good or better than the last one.

The reason my last one got as far as it did was because I would write one and a half chapters before editing the chapter itself. That way I would have part of an unedited chapter to work with. I got stuck when I tried to start a new chapter cold turkey. Or whatever.

But ya know, that would explain why one of my stories that I used to write in high school quickly became a 10K monster. Still unfinished mind you... For the same reason as all the others failed. Oopsies.

Now that I know this, I want to try again.

March 24th Shutdown Day

Could we live without computers for twenty four hours? If it was just my computer then I probably could. But what if it included cell phones, game systems, Cd players, tv, etc. It seems pretty lame if it were just to include the basic computer.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q8OMijrTVBU
http://www.shutdownday.org/
http://shutdownday.org/blog/
http://forum.shutdownday.org/

If I remember to participate, I think I'll make it more of a challenge.

The cabinet project's been sucking the life out of me. -_-

I know I don't talk much on the internet. And that's fine with me. Happy Birthday to everybody!

Nov. 1st, 2006

[GM]Dave Marathon - Vol. 1
Alternate Title "The Bane Of My Existence"
-------------------------------------------
(link)

Of all the NMs that I have camped, there is one that I hate more than all others.

Actually... It's not technically an NM.

Yes, I'm talking about everyone's favorite puddle of goo, Stroper Chyme.

For some reason (and don't ask me to explain the logic behind this one), Stroper Chyme drops a really good ring.

I don't know why a pile of jelly has a ring.

He doesn't even have fingers, for Christ's sake.

So, we have this monster that drops a very valuable ring, right?

Not exactly.

The ring used to be worth a lot of money. I say "used to be" because all of the gil sellers had to go and retard up the system, so the ring was changed to be Rare/Ex.

I started camping for the ring long before this change. My initial intention was to get the ring and sell it for big money and fabulous prizes.

Then, a week went by and no ring.

And another week. No ring.

Then a third.

Are you starting to see the pattern?

To this day, I have killed this little bastard hundreds, if not thousands, of times. In all of those kills, I have never once gotten a ring.

I don't even really need the ring anymore. Oh, it stopped being about the ring a loooong time ago.

This is revenge now, baby.

Ahab is getting his whale.

Every now and then, when I have nothing else going on, I'll spend a few days camping this bastard.

With most NMs, this might get you two or three kills over those few days. Not with Stroper Chyme.

No, sir. This guy isn't technically an NM, remember? He spawns every twelve minutes.

Do you know what's worse than camping an NM and having to wait hours on end?

Camping a monster that spawns every freaking twelve minutes.

This is like NM camping for people with ADD.

You don't even get a chance to breathe. Of course they had to make the spawn area gigantic, so you have to literally run around every second that you're camping.

Fun.

Back when the ring was worth something and was horribly camped by gil sellers, the spawn area was very small. There were basically two places you had to look.

Now, the damned thing can spawn freakin' anywhere.

I think the devs do this just to hurt me sometimes.

Anyway, one time when I was on a particularly long camping binge, I started to go a little crazy.

That happens a lot, just so you know.

That's when something funny happened.

Another player showed up to try and get the ring.

You're probably asking yourself how in the hell that could be funny? I'm trying to get a ring and now another player shows up to compete with me. That sucks.

Usually, you'd be right. Not this time though.

The player's name was Chyme.

Having lost my mind (if I'd had any to begin with), this struck me as particularly funny. I quickly switched to my GM account and decided to have some fun.

[GM]Dave>> Give it to me.
Chyme>> What?
[GM]Dave>> Give me the ring.
[GM]Dave>> Right now.
Chyme>> What ring?
[GM]Dave>> GIVE ME THE GODDAMNED RING!
Chyme>> I don't know what you're talking about.
[GM]Dave>> I'M NOT F@%&ING AROUND!
[GM]Dave>> DO IT!
Chyme>> I don't have any ring.
[GM]Dave>> THAT'S IT!
[GM]Dave>> I GAVE YOU A CHANCE!

*WARP*

Chyme>> Oh Christ.
Chyme>> Where am I?!
[GM]Dave>> WE'RE IN MY HOUSE NOW, BITCH!

[GM]Dave hits Chyme for 4,974 points of damage.
Chyme was defeated by [GM]Dave.

[GM]Dave>> Dammit.
[GM]Dave>> No drop.
Chyme>> What the hell are you doing?!
[GM]Dave>> What's it look like I'm doing?
[GM]Dave>> I'm getting my damned ring.
Chyme>> I don't have your ring.
Chyme>> I don't even know what you're talking about.

[GM]Dave casts Raise on Chyme.

Chyme>> That's better.
Chyme>> You know, you can't just kill players like that.
Chyme>> It's not very n...

[GM]Dave hits Chyme for 5,661 points of damage.
Chyme was defeated by [GM]Dave.
Chyme falls to level 54.

[GM]Dave>> DAMMIT!

[GM]Dave casts Raise on Chyme.

This went on for a couple of hours.

In the end, I explained the joke to him.

He didn't find it very funny.

Some people have no sense of humor.

I was supposed to write up a mini essay and/or paragraph about a presentation I had to do three years ago.
Some quizes

Some yelling
You scored 77% listening skills and 85% demeanor!

Judge Judy would probably yell at you at least once or twice. While she would acknowledge that you know how to behave in court, she would still accuse you of being a slick liar. She'd also tell you to do a better job answering her questions. But for the most part she'd think you were just a jerk, and not a moron, so she wouldn't yell too much. If you scored above 75% in listening skills you came close to avoiding her wrath.
Of course that's just her opinion.

Would Judge Judy Yell at You?

-----

Trekkie Appreciator
Survey Says... You scored 58 %

You like Star Trek and have obviously watched more than a couple of episodes or movies, but you don't live or breathe the world (read: you probably don't go to your local McDonalds in your Klingon gear - not that there's anything wrong with that...). Excellent! You've managed to tread the fine line between sci-fi buff and Star Trek nerd (otherwise known as the difference between enjoying Star Trek for its entertainment value and running around with a batleth quoting Klingon battle poetry).

The Trekkie Test

I live with a very devoted Star Trek fan.

-----

10", Oak, Dragon
You scored 42 wisdom, 16 bravery, 15 emotional, and 38 martyrdom!

Oak signifies wisdom, endurance, protection, and authority. Your dragon's heartstring core makes your wand very effective in hexes.

The Harry Potter Wand Test
